House Doctor Costa Blanca was created through our shared passions: design, interior decorating, architecture and real estate. Annemarie has previously worked in real estate and has been responsible for the rental and administration of our own holiday homes for more than fifteen years. Ronald has previously been involved in various building and renovation projects.
Spain: a home coming!
During the past 21 years we have worked and lived in 6 different countries. In 2011 we arrived in Madrid and this experience gave us an instant feeling home coming. We immediately knew that for us, Spain was the place to be. We left Madrid in 2016 and moved to Javea. Sun, sea, beach.... who can resist it? We already envisioned ourselves spending our days in Jávea, drinking a nice glass of wine (or Sangria) combined with typical and delicious Spanish tapas. We purchased an old ‘finca’, which we fully renovated.
This of course sounds idyllic, yet the reality was slightly different. After the purchase and during the reforms we encountered many challenges. Will the seller be amicable to a foreigner? Which builder can we trust? What is the most tax efficient way to arrange everything? And although our Spanish had improved substantially over the years, local dialect and language remains an important topic during detailed discussions. Since then a few years have passed: we commute between Amsterdam and Jávea, and live in one of the most beautiful and healthy places in Europe. In the end, it was well worth the effort.
Enthusiasm and tenacity!
From the beginning, we have very enthusiastically and with great tenacity faced every challenge along the way. Thanks to strict planning and our own knowledge and experience, we have enjoyed the entire process. From finding our dream home to realizing the renovation; it has been an exciting and pleasurable experience. One of the nicest parts of our own experience has been the many treasure hunts for original elements and antique materials to renovate the finca as authentically as possible. We still enjoy doing that!
We now use our own positive experiences, but also the bumps in the road we encountered, to support our fellow admirers of the Spanish lifestyle with personal support in their search for real estate along the Costa Blanca. Many are familiar with TV programs such “A Place under the Sun”, where enthusiastic families leave their jobs, their families and their home country to start their (un)prepared new Mediterranean life, but remember: it’s better to be safe than sorry.
As propety experts on the Costa Blanca, we are able to accommodate you in identifying the nicest and most interesting properties and consequently we will make appointments for viewing these.
